Director Suga discusses cross-disciplinary education at Kesennuma ESD/RCE meeting 2025

On Friday, October 31, 2025, WPI-AIMEC Director Toshio Suga served as a panelist at the Kesennuma ESD/RCE Roundtable meeting 2025, held at Omose Elementary School in Kesennuma, Miyagi. Many educators attended the session. The theme was how to foster learners who can cross science and humanities boundaries and create new value.

Speakers from fields such as marine science, education, the arts, and local industry shared views. Junior high school students also took the stage as panelists, adding perspectives from the next generation. Drawing on lessons from his academic work, Director Suga spoke about the importance of deepening one’s own expertise, showing respect and curiosity for other fields, and keeping dialogue even when we don’t yet understand them. He also noted AIMEC’s aim to link marine ecosystem prediction with society through collaboration with the humanities and social sciences.
