Activities
2025.12.1
The 14th WPI Science Symposium took place on November 15, 2025, at the Tsukuba International Congress Center in Ibaraki Prefecture. All 18 World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI) institutes participated and introduced their research activities. The program also included poster sessions and discussions connecting high school students from across Japan with WPI researchers, as well as engaging science talks delivered by early-career scientists.
Tohoku University PhD student Tatsuki Ueyama, who is supported by the JST-ASPIRE Program, presented a poster on the topic of ocean memory. WPI-AIMEC Postdoctoral Fellow, Zhen Lin (Specially Appointed Research Fellow, Tohoku University) gave a keynote on using Earth System Models to study how ocean currents influence nutrient flow and ecosystems. At the exhibition booth, visitors were invited to reflect on the future of the ocean by answering a guiding question. The booth also displayed two fish species and their cultural significance in the Tohoku region. Students and teachers interested in marine research and biology also visited the booth and asked questions about the use of marine ecosystem prediction and school outreach.
Thank you to everyone who attended!
