Director Suga Spoke at the JpGU-AGU Joint Meeting 2026 Top Seminar

On May 24, Prof. Toshio Suga (Tohoku University), Director of WPI-AIMEC, presented at the “Earth and Planetary Sciences Top Seminar” held at Makuhari Messe as part of the Japan Geoscience Union Meeting 2026 (JpGU-AGU Joint Meeting 2026).

The Top Seminar is a public session designed primarily for students—ranging from junior high and high schoolers to university students—as well as the public, where leading researchers explain cutting-edge Earth and planetary sciences in an accessible manner.

In his lecture, titled ” Unlocking Ocean Mysteries, Safeguarding the Future: The Forefront of Marine Ecosystem Dynamics,” Prof. Suga covered a wide range of topics. These included the structure of marine ecosystems, the impacts of climate change and environmental shifts on these ecosystems, and the interdisciplinary research frontlines at WPI-AIMEC aimed at addressing these issues.

The seminar attracted a diverse audience of all ages, including families with children, who listened attentively. During the Q&A session, the audience engaged in lively discussions, showing particular interest in topics such as the Argo program—the global network of autonomous ocean-observing floats.

The recording of the lecture is available in the video archive below. We invite you to watch it!
