Launch of the AIMEC Newsletter (Issue 01)

Our newsletter, first published in July 2026, brings you the work of WPI-AIMEC and the people behind it. Whether you are a student, a member of the local community, or working at a company, you can see what AIMEC members study about marine ecosystems and the environment, how they built their careers, and what their days look like. The title “AIMEC NEWS” is expected to change following a public call for suggestions.

The first issue features an interview with Tomoko Hamabata, WPI-AIMEC Researcher and Associate Professor at Graduate School of Information Sciences, Tohoku University, who studies the ecology of sea turtles. In the article “Facing the Future through Sea Turtles,” she talks about how she studies sea turtles, what led her to this path, and what keeps her going.
