Support for the Sustainable Ocean Science Fund (SOS Fund) for Marine Ecosystem Research

WPI-AIMEC has established the Sustainable Ocean Science Fund (SOS Fund).

The marine ecosystem surrounding us is likely to be greatly affected by environmental changes caused by global warming. For example, along the Tohoku coastal waters, known for rich fishing grounds, changes in fish species, the occurrence of red tides, and a decrease in fish catch have been reported due to rising sea temperatures and shifts in the Kuroshio current.

These changes in the marine ecosystem not only affect environmental preservation and recovery but also deeply impact our food culture and economy. Therefore, scientifically understanding and predicting marine ecosystem change is an urgent challenge for humanity, and this is the mission of WPI-AIMEC. Furthermore, our institute aims to work together with various stakeholders in society to create a sustainable ocean and human society.

This fund will be used to advance cutting-edge research across disciplines and to develop and manage a hub for communication with industries and the general public. It will also be used for events and exhibitions to share the latest knowledge and improve ocean literacy.

We kindly ask for your support in these activities to shape the future of the ocean and society.
