WPI-AIMEC and Nature Positive Core Joint Symposium on the UN Ocean Decade Actions: COSMEC and ANEMONE Global

Event Outline

Our ocean is changing faster than ever, impacting the climate we live in, the marine life and the well-being of communities worldwide. Responding to these changes requires science that bridges disciplines, borders and societies.

From February 4 – 6, 2026, the Advanced Institute for Marine Ecosystem Change (WPI-AIMEC) and the Nature Positive Sustainable Development Hub will host a three-day events in Tokyo designed for collaboration, dialogue and co-design. The event brings science, technology, policy and society into conversation to help build a more resilient and sustainable future for the ocean.

The event also marks the launch of two UN Ocean Decade Actions led by WPI-AIMEC:

  • COSMEC (Collaborations for Northwest Pacific Marine Ecosystem Prediction), an international, integrated, and collaborative science platform to advance prediction and understanding of marine ecosystem changes in the Northwest Pacific, and
  • ANEMONE Global, an international collaborative network dedicated to monitoring biodiversity using environmental DNA (eDNA), aiming for long-term biodiversity assessments and international policy efforts.
